Volunteer with Hawkez Haven
Volunteers help with the practical work behind a small, welfare-focused horse rescue in Ashhurst, Manawatū. There are opportunities to help with horse care, property work, gear, rehabilitation support and supervised horse sessions.
What volunteers can do
Depending on experience and current needs, volunteers may help with feeding routines, grooming, paddock care, cleaning and organising equipment, working bees, or supporting calm groundwork and handling under guidance.
Experience and safety
You do not necessarily need years of horse experience. Some roles are suitable for enthusiastic helpers with appropriate supervision, while sensitive horse handling and rehabilitation support require suitable experience or training. Closed-toe footwear and practical outdoor clothing are essential.
What to expect
Hawkez Haven uses a patient, welfare-first approach. Volunteers receive an induction to the property, horses, safety expectations and ways of working before taking on responsibilities.
